National Report on Countering Trafficking in Persons 2026
Today, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, launched the National Report on Countering Trafficking in Persons as Uganda joined the world in commemorating the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026 under the theme: "Trapped Behind the Scam: The Hidden Human Cost Behind Cyber Fraud." The report shows a decline in reported trafficking cases from 1,068 in 2024 to 1,002 in 2025, while highlighting the growing threat of online trafficking and cyber-enabled scams. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating human trafficking through increased public awareness, empowering young people with opportunities, strengthening law enforcement, and working closely with stakeholders to protect vulnerable communities.
